Peke A Tzu Rescue

Peke A Tzu Rescue is a Non-Profit Shih Tzu Rescue and Pekingese Rescue exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We are also active in Maltese Rescue, Poodle Rescue, Yorkie Rescue and Mixed Small Breed Rescue. Our primary location is in Trufant, Michigan but we do have foster homes in Indiana and Florida. The rescue is comprised of volunteers donating their time and love. We do not receive any money from city, county, state or federal governments. The volunteers are not paid except with pupster kisses and adoration. Many of the gift shop items are donated by volunteers so that the rescue receives 100% of the sales proceeds. Also a volunteer has designed and maintains our website so that we do not have website fees with the exception of server costs. We rescue dogs from local animal shelters, animal control facilities and private owners. All are fostered in our homes until they find their Forever Home. All vetting needs are addressed upon arrival with the appropriate follow up vet visits. We also provide a Pre Adoption Physical which is done within a 7 day period prior to adoption. This physical includes a wellness exam and fecal. A copy of the Pre Adoption Physical with our veterinarian's signature will be supplied to the adopter. We will keep an update of total vetting costs at Foster Vetting Costs. We do adopt out of state, but request that the Adopter fly in or drive in to get the baby.
Additional information on adoption can be found at Adoption Guidelines.

Puppy Mill Babies Need Your Help!

Brando, Candice, Monique, Ramona and Tessa are reaching out to you for help. They have lived in a puppy mill for their whole lives and have known nothing but breeding. Their lives have been spent behind bars, stacked in crates, not seeing the light of day. They have been debarked so never in their lifetime will they know the simple joy of barking at a squirrel or protecting a loved one by sounding an alarm should they be in danger. They were seized from the puppy miller and spent 4 weeks at an Animal Control Facility awaiting the outcome of charges filed against the puppy miller. They are now free!

Tessa, Hansel & GretelMonique & Freedom

Tessa delivered 2 puppies, Hansel and Gretel during the 4 week period. Monique delivered Freedom the day that she was released. Candice is pregnant and close to delivery.

Brando had to have his eye removed immediately upon arrival at Animal Control. They are now safe, well fed, clean and loved beyond measure. Their vetting bills will be expensive and we ask that you help us so we can supply the best vetting care possible for them. Please send your hugs from afar for these babies. They need to know that life is about being cuddled, kissed, feeling a gentle hand stroking their bodies and most of all knowing that they are very, very precious and will never feel pain in their lives again.

Jan & Bruce Collins

Update July 27th:
Tessa delivered 2 puppies, Hansel and Gretel during the 4 week period. Monique delivered Freedom the day that she was released. Candice is pregnant and close to delivery, but has a sinus infection. Ramona, still being bred at the age of 11, has a growth in the corner of her right eye with very limited vision. She also has severe tonsilitis, sinus and dental infections.

Update July 28th:
Candice delivered 6 puppies and sadly we lost one little girl due to prenatal neglect of Candice. Below is a photo of Candice and her precious babies.

Candice & her puppies

Update August 13th:
Today we said goodbye to another of Candice's babies. Our sweet Pongo fought valiantly to stay with us, but due to genetic issues he has joined his sister at the Rainbow Bridge.

Update August 18th:
With heavy hearts we would like all to know that Dash has joined his brother and sister at the Rainbow Bridge. He and his sister and brother were the first born. Candice is heartbroken and so are we. Their remaining siblings, Copper, Scamp and Fauna are doing well at this point.

Update August 31st:
All of the kids are doing wonderfully. They are learning what belly rubs are all about and are beginning to give out soft tentative kisses. Brando and Ramona have been altered and given dentals. Tessa has had her dental and will be altered in 4 weeks. Candice and Monique's vetting needs will be met once their puppies become independent. Their babies will never go through a moment of unhappiness in their lives and we promise that Brando, Candice, Monique, Ramona and Tessa will never feel any pain in their lives again. Your continued support will be greatly appreciated as their remaining vetting needs are met.

Please Help Me Run and Play

My name is Dahlia. I am an adorable 5 year old Shih Tzu Yorkie mix. Could you please help me? My back legs are paralyzed due to a disc injury that went untreated. I get around fairly well, but drag both legs behind me. To protect my little tummy and legs from abrasions I have to be confined in a small area that is soft and comfy. Mom and Dad told me that there are carts especially designed for someone like me so that I will be able to run free as the wind with the other pupsters. The cost for my "Freedom" cart is $370.00. I will also be receiving ongoing holistic care which will include acupuncture, chiropractic care and holistic supplements to help me regain muscle tone and assure that I remain pain free. I appreciate any help you could give me. Below is a video clip of me getting around without a cart.

Dahlia's Video

Update August 19th:
Today Dahlia visited Dr. Vander Wall for evaluation. She received her first acupuncture treatment and Dr. Vander Wall is evaluating her needs in regards to herbal supplements that hopefully can help her. She is scheduled to see Dr. Vander Wall on the 25th and will have weekly appointments there after for a minimum of 6 months. We are hoping with this ongoing treatment that Dahlia can regain strength in her legs. Dahlia's cart is on order and should be arriving any day.

Update August 20th:
Dahlia's "Freedom" cart has arrived! She was a bit nervous as we introduced her to the cart. We let her check it out from top to bottom for a few hours before we actually placed her within the cart. We wish all of you could have been here as we placed her on the floor. The look on her face brought tears to our eyes. She was amazed that she could actually be in an upright position. With a few treats as an incentive she began moving around the house with her new wheels. We have a feeling that it will not take her long to adjust to the cart and she will be movin' and groovin' with the rest of the pupsters. Please continue to check in for once Dahlia is comfortable with her new wheels she will star in her very own "Freedom" cart video.

Update August 31st:
Dahlia is adjusting wonderfully to her "Freedom" cart. She now looks forward to having her wheels under her. It is such a joy to see her up and about walking with the other kids and eating her meals while standing up. She hasn't run any races yet, but is getting more accustomed to how to motivate through the house and loves to be outside exploring the world.

She will be receiving weekly acupuncture treatments for a minimum of 10 weeks and will be evaluated once again at that time. Each visit is $50 so your continued help would be greatly appreciated. Dahlia agreed to have a video taken of her today....enjoy!

Designer Accessories Fundraiser
Authentic designer handbags from Prada, Louis Vuitton, Coach and more along with Coach shoes and boots have been generously donated to Peke A Tzu Rescue to raise funds for vetting expenses for our senior and special needs fosters. 100% of the proceeds goes directly to the Pupsters' Food and Vetting expenses. Many critically ill and senior fosters have gone to Rainbow Bridge and were unable to be adopted into a loving family of their own.
We are left with huge vet expenses from these precious babies and our financial resources have been depleted. With the current economy, some of our previous donors have chosen to discontinue donations.
