Update

Hi Jan,
We are home AOK. Nattie was nervous but quiet in the travel kennel. She did throw up a few times, but I had plenty of towels. Second half of the trip she dozed on and off. She just ate and drank and is tearing apart every leaf on the ground so I broke out a few toys for her. Only fly in the ointment is she is scared to death of Sparkey. She screamed and screamed. Of course, he being deaf didn’t know enough to back off. So we are taking this intro real slow now. We will just let her observe him from afar till she is ready. He is so layed back she will be chasing him around soon I’m sure. She sure loves to cuddle which is perfect for us as Sparkey just likes to be nearby, not in our lap. Thank you so much for what you and your husband do for these guys. You are both angels. I’ll keep you posted.

Hi Jan,
Nattie (now Lucy) and Sparkey are sharing a blanket now. She figured out he is not ‘scary dog’ any more. She is doing really well. My goodness she can eat! She had the bowl empty before I put it on the floor for her. We have taken several walks and she does well on the leash. We love her to death and again can’t thank you enough for taking such good care of her.
More to come.

Hi Jan,
Lucy in her fall sweater. She is doing great. Still trying to get Sparkey to play and he is slowly relaxing around her. She just loves the beach and runs after the leaves blowing along the sand. First time she got sand in her mouth she didn’t like it much, but it does not slow her down diving after blowing leaves. How she loves her leaves! We have been working with her to slow down her eating and is doing great. My husband feeds her a spoonful at a time asking her to SIT before each. She sure has figured out sitting gets her food and sits all day long! She is very smart. Housebreaking is going well also. She makes us laugh all day long with her puppy antics. We love her so much! Hope all is well at the Haven and your adoptions are going well.
Hugs,
Peggy

Hi Jan,
I must tell you Lucy is one amazing dog. She is the most loving dog I’ve ever had. Sometimes during play she will just come over for a cuddle, then go back to playing. All the neighbors are smitten with her as much as we are. She is very smart and learning fast. She comes to her name, knows OUTSIDE and POTTY and now whines at the door to go out. What a sweetheart. She is so alert. The other day a helicopter went over. She stopped, looked up and tracked it across the sky. Nothing gets unnoticed by Lucy. Her current obsession is leaves (good season for it). Chasing leaves, chewing leaves, eating leaves, ripping up leaves, you name it. Leaves are her passion. But only certain leaves. I’m not sure the criteria for her passion, but apparently there is one. Only those that make the cut are brought into the house – to be ripped into pieces. Her second passion is the treat ball as food is still high on her list. She rolls the treat ball all around the house and has even figured out how to get it out from under the couch or table. My Sadie just used to bark at it till I rescued her. But Lucy is an independent woman. We can’t thank you enough for making this possible. Since our kids and grandkids live out of the area, been a bit lonely around here but Lucy livens up the days. She still has two speeds, FAST and STOP(followed by a nap) Look for pictures come Halloween. Hope all is well with you and everyone at the Haven.
Hugs,
Peggy

Hi Jan,
Attached is Lucy’s first Halloween. Lucy, aka Winnie the Pooh, however Lucy needs to grow into the costume a bit. She managed to wiggle out of it soon after the photo shoot.
Enjoy….

Dear Jan,
Here is hoping you and your 2-legged and 4-legged family have a safe and blessed Thanksgiving. Lucy is great. This picture includes the small squeaky crackly toy you send home with her. She has a full box of toys, but this one remains her favorite. She must have it in bed and around her all day. She can get her little mouth on the squeaker and drown out all other sounds in the house. She is just a love and makes us laugh every day. I will include another photo of her under the dresser. She went under to get the orange ball, pushed it out, then got stuck. Her little whines said, “Help!” I just had to take a quick picture.
Love,
Peggy and Lucy (Nattie)

Hello Jan,
We hope this finds you and your family well. An update on Lucy. I will send more pics soon, but wanted to get you this info about our amazing girl. In spite of our precautions, I contracted Covid a couple weeks ago. Gratefully I’ve been able to stay home with the support of my doctor and my husband has tested negative. Our amazing girl, who is very in tune to people as you know, gives up her vast toy collection when I need to rest and climbs up on the couch to comfort. If I even cough or sneeze, she is right in my face checking out to see if all is OK. I have to give her the ‘I’ts OK sweetheart’ before she rests again. You know how active she is and how much she loves her toys, so I feel so special when she gives it up for my comfort. She is truly an angel in fur (much white fur as we had to miss her grooming appointment this month). The comfort she provides is quite remarkable for such a young dog. We have been able to restart our walks the last couple days so she is getting in her running. How she loves to run! I’ve left with just some memory and breathing issues, but hope they will subside with time. What a gift Lucy has been and came to us at the exact time we needed her. And I thank you and your husband and your rescue for taking her in and molding her into the amazing dog she has become. Great job.
Much love this holiday season,
Hugs,
Peggy

Hi Jan,
She is doing great. Just got back from ‘the spa’. The one on her back is before Spa. Our groomer gets a big kick out of her long white hair and her hairless ears. It makes her so cuddly. All housetrained and her recall is usually good. We are working on that. She sits for treats. And at 11 months she is calming a bit. She still loves to run and plays with all her toys, but will sometimes just chill and look out the window. She is a love. The neighbors just love her too. Finally Sparkey lets her clean his ears and his face. He does, however draw the line at taking a paw to the nose. They add so much joy to our day. Lucy makes us laugh every day. Hope all is well with your family and the Haven.

Hi Jan,
A very happy day today as Lucy is one year old. She truly is an amazing girl. Still so snuggly and kissy. And active. We miss our beach walks but my husband has cleared trails in the yard through the snow for her to run. The snow here is taller than her! Just as cute as ever and makes us laugh every day.

Hi Jan,
Easter bunny came to visit Lucy. She was not too sure of that big fuzzy rabbit, but finally curiosity got the better of her. She is doing great. She is all of 9.9 lbs and as active as ever. How she loves to run! Her vet checkups are great. And such a sweetheart. We feel grateful to have her in our lives every day. Hope all is well with you and the Haven.
Hugs to all your Haven friends,
Peggy

Hi Jan,
New pics of Lucy. All grown up at 9.2lbs! Hard to get pictures as she does not slow down much. She continues to be a delight. As you can see, our groomer likes to leave a bit of the Mohawk hairstyle. I think she is gorgeous! We take walks on the beach every day, current weather considering, and she runs and runs finding delicious things to eat! If it fits into her mouth, she will eat it! Fortunately she seems to have a cast iron digestive system. She has a large toy box and each day picks a favorite to hang out with all day. She is also adjusting well if I leave the house for a couple hours. I’ve lost a couple jigsaw puzzles along the way, but that’s ok. It’s a big step for her as I’ve been with her 24/7 since September. She and Sparkey do enjoy hanging out together. He is too old to play much, but she has figured that out and is ok with just napping together. I hope all is well with you and your family and your Haven babies.
Hugs from Lucy………….
Peggy
