Millie's Forever Home Update

Millie's
Forever Home
Update

January 26, 2022
Hi Jan,
We arrived back to Wanda's house about 30 minutes ago. Millie walked on the leash all the way into the house and then looked around to check things out before having (a late) dinner. Here are a couple of pictures. The first one is her trying out the carrier on our way home and the second one is where she crashed in front of the tv about 10 minutes ago. She was excellent in the car. She seemed to enjoy the whole experience even though it was a very long day. It was wonderful to meet you after all this time. We'll be in touch to let you know what progress we're making.
Hugs,
Vera

Hi Jan,
Today was a good day but another long one. We went to pick up my mom (50 miles away) and bring her back to Indy for some shopping. Wanda and I alternated staying in the car with Millie while the other one went with our mom. When we got home, Millie was like a new pup. She had been quiet and sleeping all day but she had a burst of energy when we returned. I was worried a little because I couldn't get her to take any water. I even put some on my fingers and put it on her mouth but no interest. When we got back, she poo-pood and pee-peed and immediately went to the water. What a relief! She is going to be an awesome travel companion on Saturday!

Hi Jan,
We've spent our first full day together as a family of four. Tyler and Millie are doing fine. I think they each think the other is here temporarily! They were both on the couch this afternoon...one on the end and the other in the middle while I was at the other end. Last night it was about midnight when we arrived home. I put Millie in her new bed and slept near her on the couch while Andy slept with Tyler in bed upstairs since it was too late to introduce them. This morning when I woke up, Millie was on the couch with me so I think she'll be sleeping in bed very soon. More stories as things develop.

Hi Auntie Jan,
I wanted to tell you all about my first week as a California girl. It's been quite a week! Tuesday I went to the vet. I still have a yeast infection in my ears, but my new doctor gave me some new medicine to use. She also found some yeast infection between my toes so I'm getting treated for that as well. Some of the hair on my back is thinning, but that could be caused by stress so I'm supposed to go back in a month to have all of that checked out. I was cleared to get a bath so I'm going to the groomer on Tuesday to get beautified. That same day Mom got my license at our local animal shelter. They were giving away a lot of freebies so Mom got some spray to help me not have accidents in the house. The nice lady behind the counter went to another room and gave Mom a package of 50 pee-pee pads ... and then she also gave me a fluffy bed like a custodian's dust mop. We decided to put that upstairs so I can be with Mom when she's on the computer. Well ... let me tell you this ... I had a couple of accidents in the house the first couple of days but now I'm totally housebroken! I guess I'll give those pee-pee pads and spray to somebody else who needs help with toilet training. Another exciting announcement is that I can walk on a leash now. Mom says I actually prance when I'm on the leash. We went out for a short walk today so I could get used to the leash more and more, and then the neighbor lady came over to say hello. I didn't like that at all so I backed off when she came closer. She talks kind of loud and that hurt my little ears. I haven't had much interaction with people other than Mom and Dad (except for the people at the vet's office and they all speak softly). We'll just work on that a little at a time. I haven't learned to climb the stairs yet but I will. Mom wanted to wait until I was housebroken so I wouldn't run upstairs and use the bedroom carpeting for a giant pee-pee padRelaxed Mom hasn't heard me bark yet and I can't remember if I ever barked. Did you hear me bark when I lived with you? I miss Fizzy, but Tyler and I get along very very well. That makes Mom and Dad happy that we're so compatible. How is Fizzy doing? Please tell him I miss him. Today we're just being lazy. Mom and Dad went to church this morning - Dad early and Mom late - and we've just been hanging out enjoying the day. We'll go for a ride in a little while just to enjoy this weather. It's 75 degrees right now. Did you get a lot of snow? My mom's mom in Indiana had so much snow and the mailman hasn't been there for four days. I am so happy living here and not freezing my toes every time I go outside.
I'm sending love and hugs to all of my friends there ...

Hi Jan,
Not much new has happened this week although the weather has been glorious and Millie is loving it! She is getting much more confident each day and seems to be very relaxed. She is bonding even more with Tyler and watches over him when he starts to bark or struggles to stand. She jumps on the couch with no effort but has found it harder to jump onto the bed. She hasn't quite mastered that yet and may not be able to clear the extra height but the effort is there. She learned how to use the stairs this week. She flew down the stairs one day but wasn't so sure about how to climb up. Then a day or two later she was flying in both directions. She is so smart!! She walks on a leash well but zig-zags instead of walking on only one side. All my others have done the same thing. She's always eager to go outside to do her business in the front, but she doesn't care much for the back yard. She wanders and explores but doesn't accomplish the task at handBlush I just can't be any happier since she came into our lives!!
Enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday!

Hi Jan,
There wasn't a space to send you a note when I sent my monthly donation so I thought I'd drop you a quick update from our girl. We seem to be doing a little better each day. I was on the Great Lakes for about 10 days, and Andy said they bonded very well and Millie even slept with him. Now that I'm home, she wakes me up to kisses almost every day and seems to be most comfortable under my computer desk when I'm there. She's still very skittish, but she actually barked about three times this week...not at anything in particular, but at least it was a bark. I love her to pieces and often wonder about her past life. My not knowing lets her get by with more than she might get by with otherwise!
Hugs to all,
Vera

Good Morning Jan,
I don't know what has happened to the space on Paypal where I can send you a note with our payment so here's an update on Millie. She is doing well. Last week we had her retest done for her Cushings. The medication she's on shows "the cortisol is looking good - it's right where they wanted it to be - and her cell counts and chemistry were also normal." She'll go back every six months to monitor her progress. She is so funny when she hears Tyler bark or make what sounds like he's in distress (actually he's just rolling around scratching his back or stretching). She gets right in my face and starts licking and jumping on me to make sure I hear him. Still only barking a couple of times from her, but that will probably come in time. Hope all is well with you and the pupsters. It's so nice to see some of them finding their forever homes!

Vera

Good Morning Jan
Millie continues to do well. She's still skittish but is getting a wee bit better. Our neighbors who have the large dogs are putting their house up for sale this week so maybe we'll be able to get her to go in the back yard to do her business. They bark at any noise they hear coming from our back yard and that scares her. Hope all is going well with PATR. Hugs,
Vera
