  • Our Goal
Many of the babies that arrive into our care are not house trained nor leash trained. Our main goal when they arrive is to let them know that they are loved and safe. We first address their veterinarian needs and then we meet their emotional needs. We spend endless hours holding them close to us, teaching them what belly rubs and kisses are all about, letting them know that each is very special to us. They are never scolded for having potty accidents in the house, this is the least of our concerns. When we know that they feel safe we then begin to gently work on house breaking and leash training issues. Many of our babies leave our care not fully house and leash trained, but they leave us packed full of love and trust and that is Our Goal!

    Pupster Sponsorships
We all know that there are different areas that we can help within rescues. Some individuals open their homes to the dogs for fostering, others aid in transports, vet visits and grooming appointments. We realize that many of our lives become very busy and there is just not enough time in the day.
A wonderful way for those of you that maintain a lifestyle that prohibits you from physically helping these sweet kids is through sponsorship.
Your name and location will be noted under the pupster you have chosen to sponsor. You will be kept updated on a monthly basis as to how your “Favorite Baby” is progressing.

    Sponsorship Auto Monthly
If you would like to sponsor one of our precious fosters, and would like to have your monthly sponsorship automatically paid via Paypal, please click on the Paypal button below. Many of our Sponsor Parents prefer this option.
If you prefer to pay on a month to month basis please click on the "Sponsor Me" button within each pupster's bio.

Sponsoring one of our pupsters is very fulfilling for you will be able to follow their progress as they heal emotionally and physically, grow to trust and find their Special Home that they so deserve.

    Moxie
I was welcomed into the rescue and my angel's loving arms on May 7, 2003. My name is Moxie.
    I am a handsome 8 yr old tri-colored Pekingese boy. I weigh 16 lbs.
I have a beautiful soft long coat and my tail is always wagging. I have only one eye (nobody knows how this happened since I came from a shelter and there was no information on me.) I am very aggressive with larger dogs so Foster Mom and Dad feel possibly I was in a fight with a larger dog and lost my eye as a result. I would love to be an only dog. I am fine with cats and usually ignore them. I am a cuddle bug and love to play couch potato with my foster Mom & Dad. I will, however bite if I feel threatened.
Because I am a senior, my diet is an extremely important factor in my overall health. Mom wanted to feed us the very best diet available, so Peke A Tzu Rescue became a distributor for Oma's Pride Raw Food products. I am enjoying a yummy turkey & veggie mix raw diet now. Mom alternates between turkey, beef and chicken raw diets. Please read about my special diet. Mom adds the following supplements: digestive enzymes, probiotics, kelp, DMG and salmon oil for a healthy balanced meal. I hope that my forever Mom/Dad will love me enough to keep me on a raw diet.
I am house trained, leash trained and handle well during grooming. I love to play with plush squeaky toys and entertain my foster Mom and Dad for hours with my cute antics.
The tooth fairy visited me in December 2008 when I had my dental and I have 32 teeth left. I am neutered, current on vaccinations, tested heart worm negative, on Interceptor for monthly heartworm prevention and on a natural flea protection. My last bloodwork was done on 12-22-08. Total vet costs can be seen at Foster Vetting Costs. My adoption fee is $300.
We appreciate Kakki Smith of Michigan for lovingly sponsoring Moxie.

    Shilo
I was welcomed into the rescue and my angel's loving arms on March 24, 2004.
My name is Shilo. I am one handsome Pekingese boy weighing in at 13 lbs, am 10 yrs old with a red/ sable coat and striking black mask.
I have known nothing but breeding. I have been told that I was living in a puppy mill, but I am one of the fortunate ones, along with 5 others that have escaped that terrible place. Shilo means peace and abundance - what a great name - I feel so peaceful now and there is an abundance of love surrounding me.
I love all of the toys and plush beds. The highlight of my day is romping and playing with some of the other Pekey boys! I am very nervous around strangers and do not think twice about biting. I would love to have a home of my own so I get lots of belly rubs and cuddles.
Because I am a senior, my diet is an extremely important factor in my overall health.  Mom wanted to feed us the very best diet available, so Peke A Tzu Rescue became a distributor for Oma's Pride Raw Food products. Mom adds the following supplements: digestive enzymes, probiotics, kelp, DMG and salmon oil for a healthy balanced meal. I hope that my forever Mom/Dad will love me enough to keep me on a raw diet.
I am still marking in the house at times and do fairly well on leash and behave myself during grooming.

    Apollo
I was welcomed into the rescue and my angel's loving arms on May 10, 2003. My name is Apollo I am an adorable, handsome 14 yr old, 11 lb male apricot poodle.
I was found as a stray, so horribly matted that I could not see. I am still extremely shy, but surely love my Mom. I need a home where I will receive total one on one. I am a sweet little boy that is just waiting for my special home. I just need someone who has a lot of patience and love to give to me.

    Spud
I was welcomed into the rescue and my angel's loving arms on August 8, 2004. My name is Spud. I am a 13 lb, 17 yr old, black and white Shih Tzu boy. I arrived on flea ridden, nails growing into my pads and matted to the skin. If this was not enough abuse from my owner, I had a growth on my side measuring 2 inches in diameter and lifting off from the skin 3/4 of an inch. The growth has been removed and biopsied. There was cancer present (Grade 2). Although the entire growth was removed, there is always a chance that some of the cancer cells may have migrated into the blood vessels or other parts of my body. I must be examined on a regular basis should anymore growths occur.
I am a sweet, sweet little boy who gives lots of kisses and hugs. I love all the other pupsters here and have so much fun playing with all of the toys. Everyone is so good to me here. I just want to be loved and cuddled for the rest of my life.

    Winston
I was welcomed into the rescue and my angel's loving arms on August 8, 2004. My name is Winston. I am a red and white, 14 yr old Shih Tzu boy weighing in at 14 lbs.
My Auntie Jeanine rescued myself and Spud and called PATR immediately. I was a mess! I had fleas crawling all over me, couldn't stop itching, my eyes were infected and my ears, we don't even want to talk about that! Some of my toe nails were growing into the pads of my feet and all of them hadn't been cut in a long time. A miracle happened and I got medication for the fleas and zap, they were gone!
I am rather a quiet boy and stay to myself, but do bounce around on occasion and play with the toys. My favorite spot is on the couch snuggling Mom or Dad. I am on daily eye medications and have an immune deficiency problem which affects the growth of my coat. I am on medications for this plus a special diet.

    Noodles
I was welcomed into the rescue and my angel's loving arms on August 21, 2004. My name is Noodles.
I am a handsome, 12 lb, sable Pekingese boy. I have the most beautiful black mask and gorgeous eyes. I am 7 yrs old.
I was picked up as a stray and ended up at this place called a shelter. I was a little bit nippy, but boy, was I scared. So here I am, in all my glory!
Now, I may be soooo cute, but I can be very alpha and will bite if things do not go exactly the way I want them. I love to be loved and give the best Pekey kisses around, but I need a home where my Mom and Dad can keep me under control and let me know who the real boss in the household is. I cannot be placed with children and prefer a home with only one other pupster, but would be happiest to have someone all to myself.
To maintain my excellent health, my diet is extremely important.
I am working on my house training and am leash trained. I do fairly well during grooming.

    Elizabeth
I was welcomed into the rescue and my angel's loving arms on September 22, 2004. My name is Elizabeth.
I am a beautiful blonde and white, 14 lb, 6 yr old Pekingese girl.
I was adopted at a shelter in New Jersey by two very loving people. Unfortunately I had not been evaluated properly before being placed and I have some issues. I would bite out of fear. These wonderful people worked with me for 2 1/2 months and just could not figure out how to help me. They contacted PATR and we drove all the way to Michigan so that I could get help. I have been doing great and am a bit more comfortable now and know that no one is going to hurt me. I still am a bit unpredictable, particularly with strangers.
I do have a loving, playful personality and am getting along great with all of the other pupsters. I love the toys and stand on my hind feet and dance around for treats and pets.
When I am adopted I will need a home with no children, someone who has lots of patience and experience with my kind of behavior. I will also need a fenced yard. I am still terrified of a leash and we are working on that.
To maintain my excellent health, my diet is extremely important.
I can be very difficult during grooming, but am house trained.
I am spayed, current on vaccinations, tested heart worm negative, on Interceptor for monthly heartworm prevention and on a natural flea protection. Total vet costs can be seen at Foster Vetting Costs. My adoption fee is $300.
We appreciate Wendy Elvendahl of Minnesota for lovingly sponsoring Elizabeth.

    Snoopy
I was welcomed into the rescue and my angel's loving arms on October 25, 2004. My name is Snoopy.
I am a happy go lucky, 14 lb, 17 yr old, Pekingese and Poodle Mix boy. My Mom had me since I was a puppy, but she had to move into an apartment and I couldn't go there.
I was a bit sad for awhile, but I have so many other pupsters to play with it keeps my mind off from it. Mom and Dad have no problem with me being in their lap where I get held and comforted.
Actually, I am a pretty happy go lucky type kind of guy. The toys are great, the people are great and everyone loves to play with me. Basically, being alive and kickin' is great. Mom and Dad just said to be patient, there is someone really special just waiting out there for me.
Because I am a senior, my diet is an extremely important factor in my overall health.  Mom wanted to feed us the very best diet available, so Peke A Tzu Rescue became a distributor for Oma's Pride Raw Food products. I am housetrained, leash trained and do well during grooming.

I am neutered, current on vaccinations, tested heart worm negative, on Interceptor for monthly heartworm prevention and on a natural flea protection. Total vet costs can be seen at Foster Vetting Costs. My adoption fee is $300.

    Jetta
I was welcomed into the rescue and my angel's loving arms on October 30, 2004. My name is Jetta.
I am a beautiful brown, black and cream Pekingese girl weighing 13 lbs. I am 7 yrs old.
I was turned into a shelter to be euthanized because I am blind. These wonderful people saved me from death and I am so happy to be here. My right eye is surgically sewn shut and my left eye has been severely traumatized. I did visit an eye specialist, but unfortunately nothing can be done, but I am, however, a very happy, pekey girl and nothing can get me down! I am a sweet, loving little girl, just want to be held and cuddled. I always have my tail up and a smile on my face.
I am getting along great with the other pupsters. Although I am blind, I get around the house and play yard very well. I particularly like my Mom and as long as I can find her scent I am fine. I jump up on her legs to let her know I really need to be picked up and cuddled.
Because of my health concerns, my diet is extremely important.
I do fairly well during grooming, walk well on a leash. I am housetrained and let my foster Mom know when I need to go outside to potty.
